The aim of FunLearn Smile is to give children their rights to play and to extend their learning, to do this, FunLearn Smile created a private area, where children are able to explore different activities and a different approach to learning lead by our qualified volunteers. FunLearn Smile adopts a play-based approach to learning to support and promote children's mental, physical, and social development, which can be delayed due to vulnerable circumstances.
WHY A PLAY-BASED APPROACH?
Children, especially those between the ages of 2 and 11, need to engage in play on a regular basis, through play children develop social, mental, physical development and they learn about the world.
A great deal of research has been done on the significance of play. Play is a primary technique through which children learn about themselves and the world around them, according to the Swiss development psychologist Jean Piaget, children's development is influenced greatly by four forms of play defined by Piaget:
-Functional play (2 to 4) During this stage, children develop physical play like running, sliding, transporting, etc.
-Constructive play (3 to 7) During this stage, children start to use toys to achieve their goals, like building a tower.
-Symbolic play (3–4 years and goes through 12 years) During this stage, children enjoy making believe games and role-playing games.
-Games with rules: During this last stage, children develop strategies, competition, and cooperation. Children enjoy playing games with rules like board games.
WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE CHILDREN ENJOYING?
Thanks to your support, children are getting a lot of resources that they have never seen before, like board games, Lego, construction toys, dolls, kitchen toys, cars, scooters, playdough, reading books, dictionaries, small people, balls, instruments, paper, painting, stationery, etc. Children are exploring new activities like role-playing, crafting, and painting with all these resources. We also promote reading by encouraging children to borrow books from FunLearn Smile library.
